The Past

Rooted in rich railroad history, Williamsfield was situated on the Santa Fe railroad line with a depot constructed in 1887-1888.

About the Veterans Park Renovation Project

Activities at Veterans Park continue in accordance with the findings of the Veterans Park Committee and the 2021 residents survey. The goal is to complete all activities ready for a naming ceremony in 2023, which marks the Park’s centenary. In October 2021 the Village Trustees determined to commence restoration and renovation activities, anticipating that additional funding would be needed for some aspects of the project. The Trustees have since reviewed quotes for the construction of a pavilion, designed in the theme of the original Williamsfield train depot and constructed on a cement pad that may permit ice-skating in winter months. The estimated cost for construction is $53,000 including all materials, labor, and the cement pad.

Fund raising commenced November 2022 by contacting organizations that have previously supported Village initiatives. The Village is gratified to share the news that the Norman Foundation has committed $20,000 to give fund raising efforts a giant leap forward. And, at the December 2022 Board Meeting, the Trustees committed to a “matching” fund raising plan to secure the remaining $33,000 needed. Specifically, the Trustees desire to raise $16,500 in donations from residents, businesses, and other organizations, and the Village will match this $16,500 to bring the total to $53,000 and issue the contract for the pavilion.

Please take this opportunity to invest in the beautification of Veterans Park, and join the Trustees for the naming ceremony and centenary in 2023.
